Because of the size of the stadium, they must carefully engineer audio to account for in-ear monitors, speakers for performers, and external noise so that every seat is the best seat in the house, plus how the audio will sound for in-home viewers. The crew rehearses countless times to execute the framing of almost 100 cameras, all special effects, and, coordinating the movement of hundreds of people safely on and off the field. They orchestrate stages that move, rise or recede, and intercut pre-shot video with live performances.

Other logistics include:

  • Star performers will often sing live, but the backup singers are pre-recorded; the sound must be synced perfectly in performance
  • The show is broadcast in 180 countries, so the team needs to account for several on-site broadcasters speaking in 25 different languages
  • There are just six minutes to set up the half-time show
